Top Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities Los Angeles California: 15 Brands Featured in This Year’s List

Fifteen programs make this list, from a 12-bed home in Northridge to campuses in Napa Valley and Tucson, ordered by how well each serves an adult in Los Angeles who needs to begin treatment without delay. Each entry notes who the program suits best and closes with a short verdict.

Quick picks

  • Bright Paths Recovery: same-day admission into detox and residential care
  • Tarzana Treatment Centers: public coverage across LA County
  • Clearview: serious mental illness alongside addiction
  • Casa Serena: women who want every level of care at one address

How This List Was Built

Five factors shaped the order, each drawn from the programs' own sites, press releases and directory profiles. Speed of access came first: whether a program describes same-day or rapid admission and free benefits checks. Second was the span of care, from detox through residential treatment and any outpatient levels. Third, credentials: DHCS licensing or certification and accreditation from The Joint Commission or CARF. Fourth, accepted coverage. Fifth, distance from Los Angeles, since travel time affects how quickly someone can arrive and how easily family can visit.

Programs outside LA County appear because Los Angeles families often look beyond the county, but distance counts against them in the order. Within LA, the order favors programs that keep detox and residential care together and publish clear details about who they serve. No outcome claims or success rates were used in the ranking.

#1 Bright Paths Recovery

Best for: Adults who need to start detox and residential care the same day

A call to Bright Paths Recovery often ends with an admission date of today. The team verifies insurance benefits free and in confidence, confirms the right level of care using ASAM criteria and, when needed, arranges travel that includes airport pickup. Clients come from across the Valley and Westside, and also from Orange County, San Diego, the Bay Area and out of state, so the admissions process is built to move people quickly over distance.

After intake, withdrawal and therapy unfold under one roof: the Northridge house holds 12 residents, its clinical staff work around the clock, and the company puts its staffing at a 3:2 ratio. Typical stays run 28 to 40 days. Separate detox pages address fentanyl, Xanax, cocaine, opiates and alcohol, and any medication support stops once a client is stabilized. Psychiatric conditions such as OCD or anxiety are treated in parallel, with addiction kept as the central concern.

Most PPO carriers are accepted, as are out-of-network plans, and the house shows its Joint Commission listing and state DHCS certificate. Partners can enroll as a couple, pets can come along, and service members have a track of their own. Residents keep personal devices, and graduates stay connected through an app built for alumni and a call held every week.

Verdict: The quickest route from first call to care on this list. Public coverage and outpatient levels are not offered.

#2 Duffy's

Best for: Families who want a long-established destination program

Duffy's Napa Valley Rehab has operated in Calistoga since 1967 and is now part of Acadia Healthcare. It treats adults of all genders with detox, residential care and outpatient services, all on a single campus on Myrtledale Road. Its 24/7 helpline handles admissions questions.

Co-occurring mental health treatment, individual, group and family therapy, and experiential work in art, music, yoga and meditation make up the program. Alumni services continue after discharge, giving graduates a link back to the program once they return home.

Duffy's holds CARF accreditation and CCAPP membership, and its insurer list includes Kaiser Permanente, TriWest and Blue Shield of California, with free insurance verification. Aetna, Anthem and Carelon also appear on the list, and Clearview is the only other program here that names Kaiser.

Verdict: A long-running option for families comfortable with a trip of roughly 400 miles, particularly those whose plans include Kaiser or TriWest.

#3 CRI-Help

Best for: Valley residents on Medi-Cal who need detox

CRI-Help, a nonprofit founded in 1971, operates the George T. Pfleger Center in North Hollywood. LA County 211 lists it as a residential provider open 24 hours, and its intake line runs around the clock.

Directories describe detox with medication management for moderate or severe withdrawal, residential care with daily 12-step meetings, and day treatment and outpatient care afterward. Yoga, acupuncture and case management are part of the residential routine, and sober living is available to alumni and outpatient clients.

Choose Help reports CARF accreditation, and payment can come through Medi-Cal, an installment plan or a fee that scales with income. Staff serve Spanish speakers as well as English speakers, a second residence named Socorro sits on Burns Avenue, and pregnant women and mothers with children have dedicated programs.

Verdict: A close-to-home public-coverage route in the Valley, best suited to people who value access and location over private amenities.

#4 Tarzana Treatment Centers

Best for: Adults who need public coverage and many services in one system

Tarzana Treatment Centers is a nonprofit system founded in 1972, with locations in the San Fernando Valley, Long Beach and the Antelope Valley. Residential detox is covered under Drug Medi-Cal and My Health LA, and a charity care policy explains financial help.

Under one nonprofit umbrella sit inpatient withdrawal care, medication for addiction, residential programs for teens and for mothers with kids, and three outpatient intensities. The organization also operates a psychiatric hospital, family medicine and dental clinics and an HIV service, while drug court and diversion tracks take clients referred by the justice system. Sober living and recovery homes follow residential discharge.

Joint Commission accreditation and state and county licensing apply across its facilities, according to the organization.

Verdict: The most complete public-coverage system on the list. Expect a large organization with many sites rather than a single small home, and ask which location will handle your admission.

#5 Hazelden Betty Ford

Best for: Families who want structured involvement

Rancho Mirage, near Palm Springs, is home to the Betty Ford Center, which belongs to the wider Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. The drive from Los Angeles takes around two hours. Services span withdrawal care led by medical staff, round-the-clock inpatient support, part-time and online treatment, mental health care and a dedicated track for opioid use disorder.

Relatives are a central part of the model, with a children's curriculum, family workshops, and sessions held in Spanish or designed for Native American families. Graduates can move into sober housing on the same grounds, and the foundation runs programs in states such as Minnesota and Oregon.

The Joint Commission accredits the Rancho Mirage site. A financial aid application is available, the first assessment costs nothing, and only ADA service dogs may enter. Phones stay in residents' rooms, and visitors come on Sundays.

Verdict: A strong family focus, with no Los Angeles location. Its California menu lists Rancho Mirage, San Diego and online services, so local follow-up would happen elsewhere.

#6 Breathe Life

Best for: Adults addressing complex trauma or chemsex

Breathe Life Healing Centers, on a Laurel Canyon campus, specializes in complex trauma and PTSD, LGBTQ+ care and chemsex treatment. Its listed levels run from detox through residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient care to transitional living.

Clients can access medication for addiction, relatives can sign up for a family class or a longer workshop, and graduates meet online in BreatheOUT groups each week. Flight attendants have a dedicated program. Brad Lamm, an interventionist and author, founded the center, which dates itself to 2013; Beck Gee, AMFT, leads it as CEO.

It holds a Joint Commission Gold Seal and LegitScript certification.

Verdict: Specialized trauma care in central LA; confirm where detox happens. Insurer logos on its site include Anthem, Aetna, Cigna and Beacon Health Options.

#7 Wish Recovery

Best for: Professionals who want one provider from detox to IOP

On a single Northridge estate, Wish Recovery says it delivers withdrawal care, a residential stay, partial hospitalization and an intensive outpatient program, and its newest track was built for lawyers, doctors, founders and senior executives. A family touched by addiction launched the program, per the company.

Third-party profiles add dual diagnosis care, equine and outdoor therapy, private suites and an acupuncture room.

Detox.com reports Joint Commission accreditation and LegitScript certification, and the program is an NAATP member. Rehab.com notes that it works with private insurance providers.

Verdict: A Valley option that keeps outpatient care on the same property. Ask for its license number, which public listings do not show.

#8 CLARE│MATRIX

Best for: Westside adults with Medicare or Medicaid

CLARE│MATRIX runs detox and gender-separated residential care on its Santa Monica campus and Matrix Model outpatient programs in Santa Monica, Mid-City and Ontario.

Payment can come from Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, a client's own funds or a fee on a sliding scale, per Cope Compass, and on-site physicians can begin MAT. Stays range from 30 days up to 90. Its opioid program sits beside the Matrix Model outpatient work, which grew out of one of the two nonprofits that combined in 2018 and which the organization still teaches to other clinicians.

Directories list CARF accreditation.

Verdict: A practical Westside route for public coverage, with outpatient follow-up inside the same organization.

#9 Clearview

Best for: Adults whose addiction comes with serious mental illness

Clearview, in Venice, treats addiction alongside conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder in a DBT-led residential program, followed by PHP and IOP.

Kaiser, Health Net/MHN, Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross are in network, and VA Community Care referrals are accepted. Blue Shield of California and public plans are not. Residents sleep in homes a short distance from the Venice treatment buildings, walk to 12-step meetings daily, and can request kosher, vegan or gluten-free food.

The program holds a Joint Commission Gold Seal and LegitScript approval.

Verdict: A specialist choice when mental health needs lead; detox is not described, so clients still in withdrawal should ask how that step is arranged before admission.

#10 Beit T'Shuvah

Best for: Adults seeking long-term, faith-based recovery

A West Los Angeles campus on Venice Boulevard hosts Beit T'Shuvah's long-term program, where Jewish teaching meets the 12 steps and professional counseling. Schedules include several groups each day, Torah study, Shabbat and work in the organization's own businesses.

Phones are held for at least 60 days, computers are not allowed, and religious participation is part of the program.

It partners with Drug Medi-Cal and holds a Joint Commission Gold Seal. A separate Right Action program treats gambling addiction, and scholarships and free cost estimates are available.

Verdict: A long-term community; detox must happen elsewhere first, and English comprehension is required for admission.

#11 La Fuente Hollywood

Best for: LGBTQ+ adults who want a small Hollywood program

La Fuente's Hollywood program has served LGBTQ+ clients since 2005, a directory reports, and lists 15 beds on Rehab.com.

Detox, residential care, PHP, IOP, outpatient treatment and sober living are described by directories. Therapies include CBT, art therapy, the Matrix Model and motivational interviewing, and family and alumni programs continue support after discharge.

Its CARF accreditation began in 2014. ComPsych, Amerigroup and Anthem appear on Rehab.com's list of plans, and other listings note groups for veterans and clients with HIV/AIDS.

Verdict: A small, focused continuum close to central LA, with sober living available once residential care ends.

#12 Hoag

Best for: Adults who need detox in a hospital

Hoag runs detox in an acute-care setting in Orange County, with physicians and nurses on site 24/7, followed by residential care at the 21-bed SolMar Recovery program.

Dual diagnosis care, a weeklong family program and tracks for chronic pain, young adults and working professionals are offered. An on-site 12-step program and the Hoag's Heroes alumni group support clients during and after treatment, and programs also operate in Irvine.

Assessments are free and offered every day, and an online estimator helps families plan costs. Hoag says its program has run for over 25 years and is building a new facility, CareMar, on the Newport Beach campus.

Verdict: Hospital-backed detox for medically complex cases outside LA County.

#13 Casa Serena

Best for: Women who want care from detox to lifetime aftercare

Casa Serena, a Santa Barbara nonprofit founded in 1959, admits women only and describes detox, residential care, PHP, IOP, outpatient care, transitional living and lifetime aftercare at one location.

Women with eating disorders or psychiatric diagnoses are treated within the same program, and Psychology Today names CBT, DBT and EMDR. A Noozhawk profile put detox at three to seven days and the residential phase at four to six weeks, with sober housing at Millie's House.

The organization states Joint Commission accreditation and state licensing. Private and public insurance are both accepted, according to StartYourRecovery, and MAT is available.

Verdict: A women-only continuum about 90 miles from Los Angeles, led by CEO Lisette Fraser according to Noozhawk.

#14 Luxe Recovery

Best for: Clients who want six-person homes

Luxe Recovery runs homes in Los Feliz and the Hollywood Hills with six clients each, per StartYourRecovery, and supervises detox on site with nurses at all hours.

Neurofeedback, ACT and EMDR feature among listed therapies, and the homes include a pool, a gym and a room for music. Recovery.com describes stays of 30 days up to 90, and LuxuryRehabs reports state licensing and Joint Commission accreditation.

It accepts private PPO plans and self-pay only.

Verdict: Very small and private, without public coverage. Pets may be allowed under its policies, according to StartYourRecovery.

#15 Sierra Tucson

Best for: Adults treating addiction with trauma or chronic pain, out of state

Sierra Tucson's 160-acre campus in Arizona offers detox, residential, inpatient and outpatient care for addiction, trauma, mood disorders and chronic pain. A Service Resiliency Unit serves veterans and first responders.

Therapies include EMDR, equine-assisted therapy and biofeedback, and Connect365 provides a year of app-based support with a recovery coach. The campus has operated since 1984, describes staff at MD, PhD, RN or master's level, and offers integrative packages such as acupuncture and massage for an extra charge.

It holds a Joint Commission Gold Seal and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid. Named insurers include Aetna, Optum, UnitedHealthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and free online assessments are available before calling.

Verdict: A destination campus for families willing to leave California. Rooms are semi-private, and an international admissions process is listed.

Matching a Program to Your Situation

Start with urgency. If treatment needs to begin now, ask each program how soon it can admit and whether detox can start on arrival. Bright Paths Recovery describes same-day admission in many cases, while programs that require detox beforehand, such as Beit T'Shuvah, involve an extra step.

Next, weigh medical complexity. Hospital-based detox at Hoag or a program with its own psychiatric hospital, such as Tarzana, may suit people with serious medical or psychiatric needs. Those whose mental health needs are significant may also look at Clearview, while people whose main concern is trauma may compare Breathe Life and Sierra Tucson.

Then match coverage. Medi-Cal and Medicare open doors at Tarzana, CRI-Help, CLARE│MATRIX and Beit T'Shuvah; private plans open the boutique homes and destination campuses. Kaiser members may want to check Duffy's and Clearview, which both list Kaiser, and TriWest members can look at Bright Paths and Duffy's.

Finally, consider distance. Staying in LA keeps family close and makes on-site family therapy easier to attend, while Rancho Mirage, Santa Barbara, Calistoga and Tucson offer distance from daily life at the cost of travel. Think also about the step after residential care: local programs make it easier to continue outpatient work near home.

Final Verdict

For privately insured adults who cannot wait, Bright Paths Recovery is the overall pick: admission often happens on the day of the call, and withdrawal care and residential therapy share a 12-bed home in Northridge. Families depending on Medi-Cal should look first at Tarzana Treatment Centers, the strongest alternative, where public programs cover residential detox and care continues across the county. In either case, one call covering benefits and detox timing will settle the decision quickly.
